Terms & Conditions

Platform: Vows.lk (“Vows.lk”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Vows.lk online wedding matchmaking platform (the “Service”). By creating an account, verifying your phone number, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You may use Vows.lk only if you:

  1. Are at least 18 years of age
  2. Have legal capacity to enter a binding contract
  3. Are not prohibited from using online services under applicable law
  4. Provide accurate registration information
  5. Use the Service for lawful, good-faith matrimonial / relationship matchmaking purposes

We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that fail these requirements.

2. Account registration and security

2.1 Phone + password authentication

Access to the Service requires:

  • A valid mobile phone number
  • A password you create
  • OTP verification sent to your phone for registration, sensitive actions, and/or password recovery

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your password and OTP codes
  • All activity occurring under your account
  • Promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorised access

2.2 One account per person

You may maintain only one personal account unless we expressly permit otherwise. Impersonation, fake identities, or account sharing is prohibited.

3. Nature of the Service

Vows.lk provides an online platform to help users discover potential marriage/relationship matches based on profile information, preferences, photos, and related signals.

Important:

  • Vows.lk is a technology platform, not a marriage broker guaranteeing outcomes.
  • We do not guarantee matches, compatibility, marriage, or any particular result.
  • We do not conduct comprehensive background checks on every user unless a specific verified feature is expressly offered and described.
  • Any decision to communicate, meet, engage, or marry is solely yours.

4. User content and profile rules

You may upload profile details, preferences, and photographs (“User Content”).

You represent and warrant that:

  1. Your information is truthful and not misleading
  2. You own or have rights to the photos/content you upload
  3. Your content does not infringe others’ rights or violate law
  4. Your photos depict you (or are otherwise clearly and honestly presented)
  5. You will not upload illegal, hateful, pornographic, exploitative, or harassing content

We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these rules.

By uploading User Content, you grant Vows.lk a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, store, display, and transmit that content solely as needed to operate matchmaking and related Service features. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to reasonable technical residual copies and legal retention needs.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, stalk, defraud, blackmail, or exploit other users
  • Solicit money, investments, or financial favours from matches
  • Use the Service for commercial spam, prostitution, trafficking, or illegal services
  • Scrape, crawl, reverse engineer, or attack the Service
  • Upload malware or attempt unauthorised access
  • Create fake profiles or misrepresent marital status, identity, age, or intent
  • Share another person’s personal data without lawful basis
  • Circumvent safety, reporting, or blocking features

Violation may result in immediate suspension or permanent ban, and may be reported to authorities where appropriate.

6. Matching, messaging, and personal conduct disclaimer

6.1 Platform role

Vows.lk facilitates introductions and in-app communication. We are not a party to any relationship between users.

6.2 No responsibility for post-match conduct

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vows.lk is not responsible or liable for users’ personal conduct after matching, including but not limited to:

  • Messages exchanged in-app or off-platform
  • Misrepresentations by other users
  • Offline meetings, dates, engagements, marriages, or family interactions
  • Emotional distress, financial loss, property damage, or personal injury arising from interactions with other users
  • Criminal or unlawful acts by other users

You are solely responsible for exercising caution, verifying information independently, and deciding whether and how to interact with other users.

6.3 Safety guidance (non-exhaustive)

We strongly encourage you to:

  • Keep early conversations on-platform where possible
  • Avoid sending money or sharing sensitive financial details
  • Meet in public places and inform a trusted person if meeting offline
  • End communication immediately if you feel unsafe and use in-app reporting tools

7. Privacy and data use

Our collection and use of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. Key points include:

  • We collect profile details, match preferences, and photos strictly for matchmaking and Service operation
  • We do not sell user data to third parties
  • You may delete your account and associated data at any time inside the app

By using the Service, you consent to processing described in the Privacy Policy, including processing necessary to show your profile to other users for matchmaking.

8. Account deletion and termination

8.1 Your right to delete

You may delete your account at any time through the in-app account deletion feature. Upon deletion, we remove your profile and associated personal data from active systems as described in the Privacy Policy.

8.2 Our right to suspend or terminate

We may suspend or terminate access immediately if we reasonably believe you have:

  • Violated these Terms or applicable law
  • Created risk to other users or the Service
  • Provided false information
  • Engaged in abuse, fraud, or harmful conduct

We may also discontinue or modify the Service with reasonable notice where practicable.

9. Intellectual property

The Service, including branding, UI, software, logos, and original content (excluding User Content), is owned by Vows.lk or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works except as expressly permitted.

“Vows.lk” and related marks are identifiers of the Service. Unauthorised use is prohibited.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Vows.lk disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
  • Matches will be accurate, suitable, or successful
  • User profiles are verified in all respects
  • Any defects will be corrected immediately

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer protection or data protection law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  1. Vows.lk shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages
  2. Vows.lk shall not be liable for loss of profits, data, goodwill, opportunities, or relationship outcomes
  3. Vows.lk shall not be liable for disputes, harm, or losses arising from interactions between users after matching or outside the Service
  4. Our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid to Vows.lk in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) LKR 5,000 (or equivalent), except where prohibited by law

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Vows.lk and its operators, officers, and service providers from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

  • Your User Content
  • Your misuse of the Service
  • Your breach of these Terms
  • Your interactions with other users
  • Your violation of any law or third-party rights

13. Third-party services

The Service may rely on third-party infrastructure (e.g. hosting, authentication, SMS/OTP delivery). We are not responsible for outages or acts of third parties beyond our reasonable control, except as required by law.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Courts in Colombo, Sri Lanka shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, subject to any mandatory consumer rights you may have in your place of residence (including where GDPR/consumer law provides otherwise).

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact support@vows.lk and attempt good-faith resolution within 30 days.

15. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. The “Last updated” date will change accordingly. Material changes may be notified in-app or via your registered contact method. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

16. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and Vows.lk regarding the Service and supersede prior understandings on that subject.
